| CHOBE NATIONAL PARK : Empire of the elephants |
|
Known for its greatest concentration of Elephants on Earth, it is thought to be between 45 000 and 90 000 Elephants in the Chobe region. In line with many of Africa's national parks, off-road and night driving is not permitted. Chobe National Park covers 11,700 square kilometres. The annual zebra migration between the Savuti marsh and Chobe rivers attracts the lions, cheetah and wild dogs. You will also find huge herds of buffalo, impala herds, kudu, and numerous other types of antelope. Although, big game is the main attraction, but it is also a bird paradise. Chobe's animals move with the rain and available food. However, most head for open plains to the south and east during the green months (December to March). Then, gradually, from April to November, as the land dries out and the heat builds, the animals migrate back to the great rivers of the north and west. The best time to visit Chobe National Park is in the dry season from May to October where more and more parched as the seasoned progresses. |
