In the southern of Tanzania, is the World Heritage, Selous Game Reserve, unprecedented in size and splendor. It is remote and wild. This is the largest game reserve in Africa - 4 times the size of the Serengeti. The Selous boasts Africa's largest buffalo population, as well as herds of zebra, impala, Nyassa wildebeest and Lichtenstein's hartebeest. Large numbers of elephants, black rhinoceroses, cheetahs, giraffes, hippopotamuses and crocodiles live in this immense sanctuary, which measures 50,000 sq. km and is relatively undisturbed by human impact. The park has a variety of vegetation zones, ranging from dense thickets to open wooded grasslands. Selous can be explored by boat, vehicle, or on foot. Best time to visit is from June to October and from December to March. |
