It is 9050km's and one of Africa's finest wildlife sanctuaries. Also called "Africa's best kept secret" is the most unspoiled park in this part of the globe. It is renowned to be the birth place of guided walking safaris and still remain the most popular way to explore the African wilderness. The park has 60 animal species and 400 different bird species. The park is well-known for large herds of elephants: Some herds numbering up to 70. Buffalo and various antelope species are prolific throughout the park. Hippos and crocodiles can be seen in great numbers in the river. Zebras can be seen everywhere. There is Thornicroft's giraffe; Lion are frequently spotted during the day, whilst night is the time for sighting leopard for which South Luangwa has a first-class reputation. (The BBC chose it for their Night of the Leopard documentaries). May to August is the ideal time to visit this park as the weather is cool and dry. |
